The first set of twins to be in space set for last SpaceShuttle launch.

More impressively, is their skill set – not their twin status.

Wallet Returned With Money 5 Yrs Later

What do you get when you mix a Craigslist purchase, a missing cellphone, a missing wallet and a Facebook search – one very good deed.

In 2005 Alanna Jensen of Bellevue, WA thought she lost her new Coach wallet and $650 in cash forever. But 5 years later, the missing wallet and all $650 was returned. The heroes behind it all – two teenage boys. When one of their cell phones fell into what seems like the “black hole” of the couch their mom had purchased off Craigslist, the two went digging and when they came up for air they had found more than what they had expected.

After what seemed to have been much debate as to whether they needed to return the wallet and money, the two notified their mom who then located Alanna on Facebook via her expired driver’s license. Alanna arranged for her mom who still resides in the Bellevue area to pick up the wallet and return the thanks with a reward for both boys. Since this has taken place, it seems the boys have gain some celebrity status – which we are more than happy to add to.

Sisters clinch 1st place in “Cupcake Wars”

via the Daily Press July 24 2010 Melody Ng

Give two sisters the chance to show their stuff and they’ll take the “cup” – the “cupcake war” that is and the sweet prize of $10,000.

Rebecca Ybarra-Grammer and Christiana Grammer of Southern California beat out over 32 other contest on the Food Network’s new show “Cupcake Wars”. Way to go ladies!

My favorite part of the whole story is how they chose the name of their online delivery company, Suite 106 Cupcakery. Suite 106 is the address of the location credited with teaching these two sisters how to run a business – its the former address of their parents’ real estate company.

Check out & Taste what these two sisters are up to at suite106cupcakery.com

The Hay Bank

Parker, CO

When good people decide they want to make a difference – they impact more than just the financial aspects of people’s lives but the very spirit that keeps us all moving forward.

In this particular story, the spirit that has kept Susan Gordon moving forward after her husband was diagnosed with cancer, were her two horses named Spirit and Shanti. As medical bills piled up, she began to fear the thought of having to sell her two best friends as she found herself faced with the possibility of not being able to pay for the cost of hay.

Enter Today’s Good Deed and the amazingly good hearted, Amy Ryals who started the non-profit organization The Hay Bank – a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering a one time shipment of hay to those in need.

It takes more than just heart to open the doors to an organization that changes people’s lives for the better – it takes determination and selflessness. Amy has it all and we would like to thank her and all of The Hay Bank volunteers that make moments like this possible. Your efforts have made a difference and they inspire the rest of us to do the same.

If you would like to contribute to The Hay Bank to help keep Amy’s (and her volunteers’) good deed moving forward, please visit her site below.

Open 24hrs

Though I’m always grateful – there are moments in life that help us recall the unending love that parents are willing to offer 24hrs a day 7 days a week – well into decades & decades worth of parenting.

For me one of those moments came today when I realized my mom had yet again sat through another one of my crazy business ideas well after midnight.

Its the little things in life that make it so much more enjoyable – like having great people that will take your call 24hrs a day.

Two friends meet at long last

An article by Steve Lopez with The Los Angeles Times, May 23, 2010

Carol Thompson is just your average next door neighbor until you learn about the size of her heart! After reading Steve Lopez’s column about a then 71yr old woman who had been living in her car for 8 years, Carol Thompson did something most people only wish they could do – she made a difference.

Despite the fact that she’s retired and on a fixed income, she reached right into her own small annuity and for 4 years now has been paying the monthly rent so that a stranger, Lee Sevilla, could have a warm more comfortable place to call home.

But the story doesn’t have to end there.

What began as the selfless act of one, has now become an opportunity for all of us. A chance to continue the good deed that Carol Thompson started so many years ago. As the annuity she has been utilizing to cover Lee’s expenses dwindles down, Carol could use some “good deeds” to help eliminate her fears of what will happen to Lee when her funds run out.

If you’re up for the challenge of carrying on this GREAT Deed – whether its a small one time or a monthly contribution – it would be greatly appreciated.

Please send all contributions in check form to the following:

Checks made payable to: Lee Sevilla

Send to:   Steve Lopez, Los Angeles Times, 202 West First Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

We would like to thank not only Carol Thompson for her Good Deed but Steve Lopez as well for a story that reminds us that there are still great people out there willing to go out of their way to put a smile on someone’s face.
